Spell Casting is the ability to cast spells and perform rituals. It is one of the three basic powers possessed by witches and certain other magical beings.
Overview
Spell Casting is achieved by speaking or chanting a combination of sentences. Spells often rhyme, but this is not required. Paige Matthews once wrote a haiku, a form of Japanese poetry, to vanquish a demon. Another method is speaking the desired effect in Latin. Sometimes spells have additional requirements such as candles, potions or magical artifacts. In these cases, the spell is often referred to as a ritual.
Spells can achieve a great number of effects, depending on the intention and wording. Vanquishing spells are used to vanquish beings, while enchanting spells are used to place a magical effect on beings or artifacts. Spells can also backfire when the spell is performed wrong or if a good witch casts a spell for personal gain. This can result in the spell failing or causing an unintended and unwanted effect.
Curses
Curses are spells or enchantments with negative effects placed on people, objects or locations. Curses are used by both the forces of good and evil. While evil may place curses for malevolent reasons, the forces of good generally only use them in dire situations and as a necessary evil.
