Souls are the incorporeal and immortal essence of living beings. Mortals and all beings of good possess souls, while the forces of evil, such as demons and warlocks do not. However, half-breed evil beings, such as Cole Turner, are born with a soul due to their mortal side. When a soul dies, it can choose to reincarnate in another life or become a spirit.
Souls are valued as currency in the Underworld, as souls are obtained and traded in demonic auctions or traded for magical powers. In order to trade them, souls can be contained in glowing white orbs or balls of fire. Certain evil magical beings also feed on the souls of the living for sustenance or to increase one's power. Souls can also be a very powerful source of energy, however using them in this sense will eventually consume them and make them disappear.

- Presumably a soul that has been consumed can be restored via Resurrection, as demons' essences are consumed in the Demonic Wasteland, but they can still be resurrected.
- The beings found in the Demoniac Wasteland cannot consume souls, but only the essences of demons, therefore it is inferred that if the half-demons die they will end up somewhere else or they would all escape like Cole did. Presumably he only ended up there because he died while possessed by the Source.
- Half-warlocks and witches with warlock DNA who commit an act of pure evil will lose their souls and become pure warlocks. It is unknown whether dragon warlocks possess a soul, but it is worth noting that killing does not make them become pure warlocks, so it is possible that while killing they do not lose their soul if they have one.
